Snow arrives early in the Alps
Early indications are promising that we will generally have another great ski season! The Alps saw a huge fall of snow last weekend leading to several resorts opening early. The Alpine glaciers generally saw 20-30cm of fresh snow leading to excellent conditions now that the weather has cleared. With more snow expected in a few days, this should form a base layer that will now build through the season and barring some exceptional mild-spell (let’s not hope for too much sun), it seems safe to assume that there will be no repeat of the grassy green slopes that greeted Christmas holiday skiers several years ago.
Morzine, sitting at 1500m, is expected to see more snow next week as temperatures begin to fall. While the snowline is currently sitting up near Avroiaz at 1730m with more snowfall expected there as soon as this weekend with temperatures sitting at around 2°c and still falling.
If you can’t wait to get here and are craving the snow already, why not take a sneaky peak at the Avoriaz 1800m webcam and others HERE. They’re sure not to disappoint on the run up to the start of the season, which, by the way, opens in just over 5 weeks! Not that we’re counting.
