New High speed ski lifts for Morzine & Avoriaz
Prodains lift Avoriaz
The Prodains telepherique lift which takes skiers and holiday makers up the town off Avoriaz from Morzine via Route de Prodains has after a 50 year service life last season been replaced.
This lift links Morzine with Avoriaz and the rest of the Portes du Soleil ski region. The new lift which is fully operational as of April 2013 can now carry between 2000 and 2400 passengers per hour compared the old lift which was significantly less at only a few hundred.
The new high speed ski lift is made by swiss company 3s technology and two carrying cables and one hauling cable move twelve cars each seating 35 passengers at about 7 meters per second so the whole journey now only takes around 4 minutes, a significant improvement on the previous journey time.
Be aware that parking was a bit on an issue at Prodains last season as the new lift was built in half of the old car park area but we are told this will get sorted soon. Also there are plans in place for the future to link Prodains lift to Morzine town centre by cable car so this will save pedestrians having to use the free navette bus service.
Morzine Pleney Ski Lift
The good news is that Pleney lift company is replacing the Pleney lift over this summer to improve capacity and access to the winter ski area and for summer mountain bikers. The question on everyone’s mind is, will it be ready for the start of season December 2013? Traditionally these things tend to over run the estimated opening date but Morzine, the Pleney lift company and the construction companies are under a lot of pressure to have it up and running for the start of December. Other options are of course close at hand, the super morzine lift takes skiers to the super morzine region and on into Avoriaz should you wish, plus there are busses to Nyon, Les Gets, Prodains and Ardent all of which have lifts and access to the ski areas so you are never far from mountain access. Now is the time to book for winter 2013 / 2014.
