Best family ski resorts for skiing with children
France is a top destination for family skiing holidays with its location, purpose-built ski resorts, high-altitude skiing opportunities, great track-record for snow and sun, and a magnitude of ways to entertain the children.
It is easy to get to from Britain by low-cost airlines or rail. The larger resorts are great for families to meet others and many offer car-free zones, so the children can play in the streets safely. The traditional villages are picture perfect and usually have a little extra to add to the skiing holiday, should the children ever get bored.
Most big French resorts have affordable care for children from a few months old, or their own child-friendly ski schools. The easier slopes are earmarked for the children to use and the instructors are used to working with both timid and confident skiers.
So where is best for families to take their children on a skiing holiday?
The Ski Club of Great Britain has named Avoriaz in the top 3 resorts for family skiing. Why? I’ll let them explain…
“Want to let your children play freely around the resort? Well Avoriaz is one the best places to go to in France as it’s car-free with only horse-drawn carriages allowed. The horses will be novelty enough for the children, but they can also be entertained at the water park, Aquariaz, or at the child-minders and leisure centre onsite. The resort is great for children who are learning to ski as it has a ski school specifically for children and teenagers. The school, ‘Village des enfants’, teaches the children how to ski with a ‘learning through play’ method.”
The Pleney slopes in Morzine offer much the same experience, but much quieter. A great area to spend your next family ski holiday.
